Hello Blues Lovers. This open letter is to inform everyone that it looks like the end of an era for the Central Valley Blues Society website calendar. In our long run of almost 17 Years, our Webmaster, HAL KENT, is retiring. Hal isn't just a webmaster doing a job for us, Hal was the reason this amazing website has lasted this long. He personally updated the calendar week after week for so long. He even added the Bay Area page back when the people doing their own Bay Area calendar were giving it up and approached Hal to take it over. I can't thank Hal enough for his commitment to the blues and CVBS. He created the website and kept it updated without any outside pressure because none was ever needed. He has always been the behind the scenes guy while I wrote the Newsletter, worked events with the help of my wife Susan and other volunteers. You know who you are and I can't thank you all enough.
Another person who has been there from the early years with his expertise and passion for the arts is MARC BLAKE. Marc is the person who, with me, decided on the domain name CVBLUES.org. He also hosted the website on his servers and helped with technical stuff working with Hal and myself. Even if you were not a member, you could utilize the website for what it was. It was simple to remember and it has been clicked on millions of times. A wealth of Blues Info and links to support the artists and the venues all while giving the blues fans a place to make plans for road trips, concert outings or even just the local Blues Jams.
A significant challenge and driver in our decision to discontinue the Blues Calendar is the increased use of social media. Through social media, everyone has a direct market to their own fans, friends, artists and venues. Except for a few artists out there, we just were not getting the Gig Submissions like we used to. Hal would have to go to the Artist Page/Website or the Venue Page/Website to collect all this information and hope it was up to date and correct. We encourage all artists to self promote to their audience but the research needed to populate the calendar accurately became a time consuming task each week. The actual area that CVBS covered became way beyond our original concept. We regret nothing. But it is what it is and now we must move on.
We're looking forward to hearing from everyone with stories or possible ideas to keep the Central Valley Blues Society rolling one way or another. We still want to represent the CVBS at Festivals and other events just so we can stay in touch with all the amazing friends and artists we have met over the years.
Keep On Groovin'

These jams and shows change frequently. Always check with the venue before making plans.
